American Mahjong · 152 tiles
A complete 152-tile American set sewn in plush — 108 suited tiles, 28 honours, 8 flowers and the 8 jokers American play can't sit down without. Short plush face, foam-block core, medium-long pile back.
Every tile soft enough to slam.
— Bochantoy Mahjong
Quiet neighbours, pleased guests, a full table of four.
Why plush
Same rules, same 152 tiles. Only the handfeel changes — and that is what your customers will talk about.
No acrylic clatter. A foam-block core wrapped in plush lands soft, so a four-hour game never turns into a noise complaint.
Eight jokers and eight flowers, exactly as NMJL play expects. A set that comes up one joker short is a set somebody returns.
The core is soft foam, not plastic or wood. Drop a tile, sit on a tile — nothing cracks, nothing splinters, no edge to chip.
Three sizes
All three sets contain the full 152 tiles — 136 standard plus 8 flowers and 8 jokers. Dimensions are per single tile, measured flat before the filling settles.
| Model | Tile size (L × W × T) | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| No.36 | 27 × 20 × 16 mm | US$59 | Travel, small hands, kids |

| No.42 | 30 × 23 × 19 mm | US$79 | Club tables, tournament evenings |
Prices are per complete set including the canvas drawstring bag. Tiles are cut on a hand-fed press, so every dimension carries a ±1 mm tolerance. Bulk pricing starts at 50 sets.

Anatomy
A plush tile fails when it looks like a printed cushion. Ours keeps a crisp face, a square body and a soft back — because each layer does one job.
A 2.5 mm short pile takes print and embroidery cleanly, so dots stay round and bamboo stays straight. Tight pile means no fuzz creeping over the characters after a hundred games — and a printed joker reads like any other tile under the fingers.
Cut square, slightly smaller than the finished tile, then wrapped. It gives the tile its thickness, keeps all four edges flat on the table, and returns to shape after a squeeze.
The back panel uses a longer 8 mm pile. It reads as plush rather than printed card, cushions the seam, and keeps the tile from sliding when you build a wall.
Stitched all round with a 6 mm corner radius. No exposed foam, no raw seam, and nothing to pick at during a long hand.

What's inside
152 tiles is the full American count: 108 suited, 28 honours, 8 flowers and 8 jokers. Flowers are decorative in NMJL play and set aside — they ship because every 152-tile set includes them.
How it plays
Not the game your grandmother taught you: no chows, no fan counting, and a joker in hand. Four things decide every hand.
The National Mah Jongg League prints a new card every April with roughly 70 legal hands. You don't invent a shape — you match one line on the card exactly, and that line sets what the hand pays.
Before the first discard everyone passes three tiles to the right, three across, three left. A second round the other way is optional and needs the whole table to agree. Jokers never leave your rack in a pass.
A joker stands in for a pung, kong or quint — never a pair, never a single. Once it's exposed, any player holding the natural tile can buy it back on their turn; a joker still hidden on your rack is safe.
You may claim a discard to complete a group of three or more and lay it face-up. Win on a discard and that player pays double; pick your own tile and all three pay double. A jokerless hand pays double again.
The NMJL card and racks are licensed or third-party items and are not in the box. Selling to first-time players? Ask for a rack-and-card bundle quote — we can pack them with the set.
Why buyers pick it
Gift shops, museum stores, hotel lounges and mahjong cafés order this set for the same three reasons.
Soft pastel faces and a canvas bag give you a product that sells from a photo — no styling props needed.
No hard parts, no small magnets, nothing to break. Parents and grandparents can play the same set.
Real characters, correct tile count, standard suits. A plush set that still teaches someone how to play.

The questions buyers ask before the first sample.
Yes — 8 jokers and 8 flowers, for the full 152-tile American count. In NMJL play the flowers are decorative and set aside; the jokers are the ones that matter.
No. The card is published each April by the National Mah Jongg League and licensed per year, so we can't print it into the box. Order it direct from NMJL — around US$15 — and we can ship a rack-and-card bundle if you're selling to new players.
No — plush is thicker than acrylic, so the tiles play flat on the table rather than sliding into a pusher rack. No.40 is the size most American buyers pick for rack-free play; No.42 is closest to a standard 1-3/16" tile in the hand.
One set. Order a single set to check the handfeel and weight, then move to 50+ with a per-order quote. Samples are charged at the listed set price plus freight.
Yes. Faces can be printed or embroidered with your artwork, the back fabric dyed to a Pantone reference, and the canvas bag takes a woven label or a one-colour print. Custom runs start at 100 sets, artwork approval in 3–5 days.
There is no hard core, no magnet and no small detachable part — the tile is foam wrapped in plush. EN71-1/-2/-3 and ASTM F963 testing can be arranged on request; ask in your inquiry and we quote the lab fee separately.
One polybag per set, then the canvas drawstring bag, then an export carton. We quote EXW Dongguan by default and can arrange FOB Shenzhen, CIF or DDP. Gift box, sleeve and hangtag are available — send your dieline.
